1) Text the person you're dissing
"Yeah mate I'd rate Julie 5/10 in bed - she was a bit podgy but, on the plus side, pure filth." Contacts, send to: Julie. Argh! It's a brain meltdown we've all experienced (or at least, I have).
Recovery chances: 2/10 – saying it was a different Julie is unlikely to fly.

2) Instant message juggling
Chatting to multiple friends or colleagues in different windows might make you feel popular but it’s risky. If your boss suddenly pop ups and you baffle him with kisses or a cat emoticon, it may cost you that promotion.
Recovery chances: 7/10 – kisses and cat emoticons are generally inoffensive, unless your boss’s cat recently died and he thinks you are mocking him.

3) Pocket dialling
Normally an innocent mistake that happens when your keypad is unlocked… but it depends what you're doing at the time. A pal of mine once inadvertently left a voicemail on his girlfriend's phone while he was canoodling with someone else.
Recovery chances: 5/10 - The crackly sound quality should allow you to create an alternative truth. At least it should be crackly sound quality, unless you’re having sex in a toilet.

4) Sex tape
It’s great to make a saucy video with someone you love and trust... until you dump them and they upload their revenge on myamateurvideo.com.
Recovery chances: 3/10 – The only thing that can save you is your own incompetence as a filmmaker. Body parts look fairly similar on a fuzzy screen, faces less so.

5) Drunk dialling
Ultimately, you are to blame for this rather than technology. But the mobile phone is the device that allows you to send the message: “I need too see ur boobs... NOW! xxxxx” to your ex at 3.19am.
Recovery chances: 2/10 - slim, unless you claim your phone was hijacked by a randy tramp when you fell asleep on the night bus.

6) Wall defamation
"Was great to see you last night ;-) x" appears on your Facebook Wall from a mystery girl. The kiss alone is damning, but the wink is a virtual guarantee you got laid.
Recovery chances: 4/10 - This looks dodgy but it’s not enough evidence for a conviction. That wink could mean literally anything.

7) Spotted on dating site
The girl you’re seeing finds an online dating profile with your photo and the tagline “single and looking for fun, preferably with someone really skinny”.
Recovery chances: 6/10 – You could say it was an old profile, or your mate uploaded it. And why was she looking at a dating site anyway?!

8) Block sucker
An annoying girl keeps pestering you on messenger. Easy solution: block her. But you’re also friends with her housemate, and they're online at the same time. The ultimate snub: cue hatred and awkwardness forever.
Recovery chances: 1/10 – You could blame computers but this is so blatant that you’ll just have to come clean. The upside is that you generally don’t like people you block anyway.

9) Incriminating Facebook tag
Oh look, it’s you, on a night out, a bit drunk, having fun with your friends and… is your hand on that woman’s bottom? Hold on... is it IN that woman’s bottom?
Recovery chances: 2/10 - They say the camera never lies, but you can still try. If you’re snapped kissing, say it was her birthday. Bum-touching may be trickier to explain.

Studies show that men use language to establish difference, separateness and independence (exactly the opposite of women, who talk to connect). So demanding that he talk to you is guaranteed to make him squirm and start rambling about whether new Cheerios really are improved.”

“The most important thing is to make sure you choose a foundation shade in as natural a light as possible - ideally broad daylight,” says Chase Aston, The Body Shop’s international make up artist. “If you apply two or three shades at one time, wait for a couple of minutes to see how they oxidise.”

Take a lip-liner pencil in the same shade as your gloss and fill in the whole lip area.”
Prepare to be amazed: “No make-up has to win hands down.” says Eli Ankutse. “Although that said, when make-up is used compliment an overall look, it can look immaculate.  But I’d say no make-up has to win hands down. Natural beauty wins every time.”

I’m typing this as I sit outside our palatial lodge overlooking 
vast acres of beautiful woodland. I’m drinking my tea and drinking in nature; in the distance I can hear the gentle birdsong of something lesser spotted and the harmonious squawking of a breed that’s way too common: a herd of OPK, or as it’s more commonly known, “other people’s kids”.

I’m at Centerparcs, where ‘OPK’ obviously exist in huge numbers (what with it being a family holiday kinda place) and over the last few days I’ve been pondering life’s big questions:

“Why don’t we ride bikes at home?” Answer: ‘cos we live in London with mentalist drivers rather than in a car-free woodland.

“Why is my right trainer much heavier than my left?” Answer: ‘cos the three year old has been shiftily sifting sand into it during our jaunt to the pretend beach.And: “Is it ever ok to tell off other people’s kids?” Answer: hmm, I’ll get back to you. 
Now, I try to be one of those chilled parents who aren’t busy-bodies or sticklers for rules but I couldn’t help noticing that the girl who’d just entered was already a willowy 5’5” and clearly towered over the small cardboard man at the entrance declaring, “If you’re shorter than me you can come in to play”. In fact, if the cardboard official was sporting some well stacked Cuban heels, she’d still dwarf him; I reckon she was easily 12.


Now, I’ve been the recipient of enough soggy paper spit balls thwacking the back of my neck at school to know it’s not the nicest of experiences. It’s bad enough when it happens in double modular science but even worse when you’re relaxing upside-down over a padded yellow slide on an Easter family break.


So, in conclusion I think its best not to try to discipline offspring that don’t belong to you. Plus, to be honest, why would I want to shout at other people’s kids when I’m so good at shouting at my own?

Understanding Escrow Accounts in Real Estate

In the world of real estate, the inability of a borrower to properly insure their home is not only negligent, but potentially a financial disaster for the lender. This also holds true in the case of missed tax payments on the property, as either one of these situations can lead to the lender's collateral being forfeit or lost. For situations where the borrower's ability to maintain these two vital responsibilities is in question, an escrow account might be the answer.

Understanding escrow accounts in real estate revolves around understanding the need for these two issues to be covered financially by the lender at all times, and further understanding that an escrow account is simply meant to cover these costs. Most borrowers on a mortgage maintain their own forms of "T&I" or, tax and insurance, separately from the mortgage payments they make to their lender. Only in certain cases, such as federally sponsored mortgages made by the FHA (Federal Housing Administration) or the VA (Veterans Administration) do escrow accounts become required. In these cases it is seen as a necessity considering the federal backing of the mortgages. The government uses these types of accounts to ensure payments of tax and insurance, so as to be assured that the home will not fall into delinquent status.

For those that seek to maintain their own escrow accounts in private mortgages, most banks offer this options with their mortgages, and a lump sum payment of principle, interest, tax and insurance can be made to the bank monthly. Some private mortgage companies and banks also require escrow accounts, and set forth standard tax and insurance amounts based on limits set by the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act of 1973 (RESPA).

RESPA was enacted to prevent the misuse of escrow accounts by overcharging borrowers. This prevents the lender from obtaining more than the minimum balance requirement set before the origination of the loan. This minimum balance requirement is usually no more than two months of escrow payments, and any amount over this sum is refunded to the borrower. Month to month escrow payments are formulated by simply taking the yearly costs of taxes and insurance and dividing by 12. This calculation is called an escrow analysis, and must be calculated every 12 months.

Escrow analysis occurs yearly and can thus cause issues with shortages when premiums or taxes rise. If, for example, taxes rose by $120 a year immediately following an escrow 

analysis, the mortgage company would cover the costs and then increase the escrow monthly amount accordingly. The subsequent shortage that was incurred when the full amount of taxes was paid would also have to be covered, and this too would have to be spread over the year of escrow payments.

Escrow accounts can also be used as a way to maintain a third party account to allow for the easy transfer of money between a seller and buyer of a property or house. The account allows for both parties to perform the necessary actions to incur a transfer of property. Closing in escrow insures both parties against anything going awry.

This week marked my latest attempt to pull someone on the tube. When I got on at King’s Cross, she was already sitting there. I slid in right beside her and our eyes met for a split second. I presumptuously detected a hint of longing.

This situation is not unusual. Every time I’m on the tube, I exchange similar glances with various female passengers. After all, there’s not much else to look at. But like most people, I never do anything about it.  

I say never... one time about seven years ago, a striking fair-haired lady caught my eye on the Victoria Line. We exchanged smouldering looks as the train shuffled along. Then, to my delight, we got off at the same stop. If that was promising, imagine my excitement when I found myself one step above her on the escalator. I was convinced she had orchestrated the whole thing.

I should mention at this point that I’d indulged in a spot of afternoon drinking that day – only two or three pints, but enough to instil me with the impudence to purr, “I think you’re the best-looking girl on this escalator.”

“Thanks,” she responded demurely and smiled.

“That’s okay,” I replied, and then felt myself mentally disintegrate on the spot. I couldn’t think of a single other thing to say. Within seconds, we’d reached the top of our electric stairway to heaven and next thing I was shoving a travelcard through a ticket machine and wondering what the hell had just happened. Suffice to say, I never saw the girl again.

A long time has elapsed between that fateful day and this week, when the King’s Cross girl and I are sitting next to one another. But for some reason, I could feel it happening again. I was going to say something to her. 

As soon as I contemplated this, I began to panic. The carriage wasn’t full but there were people sitting around us. They’d all witness my audaciously seedy attempt to pick up on public transport. I couldn’t do it.

Then a brilliant idea hit me. I had no phone because it was being repaired, so I didn’t know the time.  I’d ask her what the time was. Simple, but genius. 

So I decided to ask. But again, I was instantly gripped by fear and my heart began pounding like Tiger Woods on a Club 18-30 holiday. 

I normally don’t have trouble striking up conversation with girls. But on the tube? In the middle of the day? It seemed like the craziest plan ever. I couldn’t do it... could I?

“I’m sorry, but have you got the time?” I asked as nonchalantly as possible. 

“Sure,” she responded warmly and fished a phone out of her handbag. “It’s quarter to two.” She was American, which I liked. 

With the 2003 escalator debacle still gnawing at me, I resolved to keep going. I told her I’d lost my phone and that I was late for work. Conversation flowed quite nicely for the next couple of minutes. It turned out we had a few things in common, and there was a definite spark. Basically, I was in. 

She’d already told me where she was getting off but her stop approached more quickly than I expected. She gave me roughly an eight-second warning: “So, er, this is me.” 

We literally had eight seconds left. Should I get her number? Was there time? Should I invite her for lunch? Should I follow her off the tube? Should I ask her name? Should I tell her mine? Should I go in for the snog? In the end, I did none of these.

 “Cool, nice to meet you,” I said. That was it.

“Nice to meet you too,” she said, and she hesitantly stalked through the sliding doors, shooting a curious glance back as she went. The doors slammed shut and my tube chugged smoothly away.

It was a bit of a waste, but it was better than the escalator I suppose. I’m going to try that again soon, and I'll let you know what happens.

Black Moms Say No to Breast-feeding

 Only about 58% of Black mothers ever breast- feed compared to 81% of Latino and 76% of white mothers. After a year, almost half of Latino and white moms are still at it while only 13% of Black moms continue to breast-feed. Compared to bottle-feeding, breast-feeding baby can save a family about $1,500 in the first year.

The financial benefits of breast-feeding took center stage in the latest issue of The Urban Shopper, a Shopping Lifestyle and Values web magazine, targeted to Black and Latino females. The web magazine devoted all of its six content channels exclusively to the financial impact of raising a baby.

“Milk-Made Wars”, the title of the article, looks at the health and wealth benefits of breast versus bottle-feeding baby. The issue of breast-feeding is a sensitive one in the African-American community especially given high rates of premature and low-birth weight babies born to Black mothers. 

Reasons for the persistently low rates of breastfeeding among Black women are not well understood. Black women return to work faster than white women and more often work at places not supportive of breastfeeding. Income too is indicator of willingness to breast feed, with higher income families more likely to breastfeed. Certainly marketers and even hospitals “promote” formula to new mothers in patient gift bags to the exclusion of breastfeeding. No one can argue the convenience of ready-made products for the many daily feedings a baby demands. However convenience is soundly trumped by the health benefits of breast-feeding baby.

The American Pediatric Society has a goal of 90% of babies being breast feed for the first year of life. First Lady Michelle Obama has been campaigning for more breast-feeding around her initiatives on childhood obesity. Breast-fed babies result in slimmer children. Last week, the Internal Revenue Service finally agreed to allow 2010 taxes to reflect the costs of pumps and milk bags. Women with flexible spending accounts can use pre-tax dollars to pay for nursing supplies and those who itemize can add them in as health care costs.

NAPOLEON PROCLAIMED EMPEROR OF THE FRENCH – MAY 18, 1804

Napoleon Bonaparte (15 August 1769 – 5 May 1821) was a military and political leader during the latter stages of the French Revolution. As Napoleon I, he was Emperor of the French from 1804 to 1815. His legal reform, the Napoleonic code, has been a major influence on many civil law jurisdictions worldwide, but he is best remembered for the wars he led against a series of coalitions, the so-called Napoleonic Wars, during which he established hegemony over much of Europe and sought to spread revolutionary ideals.

Napoleon was born in Corsica to parents of noble Italian ancestry and trained as an artillery officer in mainland France. In 1799, he staged a coup d’état and installed himself as First Consul; five years later the French Senate proclaimed him emperor on May 18th, 1804. In the first decade of the 19th century, the French Empire under Napoleon engaged in a series of conflicts—the Napoleonic Wars—involving every major European power. After a streak of victories, France secured a dominant position in continental Europe, and Napoleon maintained the French sphere of influence through the formation of extensive alliances and the appointment of friends and family members to rule other European countries as French client states. Napoleon’s campaigns are studied at military academies throughout much of the world.

The French invasion of Russia in 1812 marked a turning point in Napoleon’s fortunes. His Grande Armée was badly damaged in the campaign and never fully recovered.
